week of February 11
La Frenz Shiraz (Canada – BC) -I tried this wine at the Naramata Bench tasting and it was FANTASTIC!! Seriously, YUM!! Or as the website states: “This shiraz is very reminiscent of a northern Rhone style. The aroma shows beautiful ripe red and dark fruits with floral and violet notes showing through. This shiraz is more about elegance and layering than sheer power, showing sweet fruits, superb French oak, ripe tannins, and a wonderful length to the palate. A great example of cool climate shiraz or syrah depending on where you are from in the world.”
Wolftrap White (South Africa) – “Spicy with fruit blossom flavours, followed with a well textured palate and balanced acidity.” (Bacchus group tasting notes)
Sutter Home Fre Chardonnay (non-alcoholic) (USA)
Croft Pink Port (Portugal) -“…wonderfully fresh and vibrant, full of the rich fruit flavours of port but with a unique and distinctive appeal.” (website)
Diplomatico Blanco rum (Venezuela) – I tried this one at a tasting event in Edmonton last week. It is delicious. A white rum that you don’t need to add mix to, it is perfect straight. Click on the link to learn more about this superb white rum.
Hacienda Saruro rum liqueur (Venezuela) – I tried this one at the tasting event in Edmonton too. It was a good event. This is a very tasty rum liqueur. The rep for this product told me a lot of people mix this with egg nog. I cannot wait for Christmas this year
Snow Leopard vodka (poland) – “Fresh floral and anise aroma. Rich body of creamy, vanilla, nut and peppery spice flavours. Ultra smooth finish.” (website)
Sakiri vodka (France) – Beautiful, smooth. Again an item I tried at the tasting in Edmonton last week. Did I mention it was a good tasting? Nevermind all the wines I tried. This vodka has been added to the wine tasting on February 25.
Brew Dog 5am Saint ale (Scotland) – “We’ve dry-hopped this little beauty to the brink and back with the help of amarillo and centennial hops that create an all out riot of citrus, orange and lychee flavours. Cast away any aspersions and let the crook of BrewDog be your guide in a whirlwind of conformity and mediocrity. Once this ruby liquid forms a foamy halo around your glass, you’ll never want to look back.” (tasting notes) Yes, I drank this at the tasting too. DELICIOUS. The lychee is very subtle but adds a lovely note of flavour to this beer.
