Quail’s Gate Optima 2008
“This succulent dessert wine exhibits a very aromatic profile of baked pear, fig, orange and ripe citrus…” (winery tasting notes). It is succulent and delicious without being too sweet – only a 2 on the sweetness scale. “Botrytis cinerea” or Noble Rot reduces this late harvested fruit to a raisin concentrating the flavours and sugars. I tasted the Quail’s Gate Optima at the BC VQA wine tasting and had to bring it in, even if I’m the only one who buys it. It is dessert in a bottle without the sugar hangover.
