Black Hills Estate Syrah VQA 2009 (Canada) – “An exuberant wine with aromas of raspberry, cherry cola, blackberry and chocolate tantalizing the nose.  On the palate this silky smooth wine reveals great complexity with notes of charred meat, mocha and cigar box.  All in all full bodied, balanced wine with integrated tannins, rich mouth feel and a nice long finish.”  (Graham Pierce, Winemaker)

Cedar Creek Platinum Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 (Canada) – “Big, bold and complex with aromas of black fruit, cassis, chocolate, mint and anise. Mouth filling with rich, ripe fruit, mint and a touch of earthiness. Balanced with elegant tannins and a long silky finish.” (website)

Ex Nihilo Merlot 2008 (Canada) – “Classic Merlot with a rich ruby-red colour and an expressive nose of raspberry, cherry, dark chocolate and allspice.  A silky mouthful of black cherry fruit and a balanced finish.  An elegant wine which is approachable now and whose structure will show added complexities over the next 5 – 8 years.”  (tasting notes)

Ex Nihilo Night – Bordeaux style blend 2008 (Canada) – “This Bordeaux style wine is perfectly balanced with aromas of rich raspberry, tobacco leaves and coffee beans.  The palate reveals flavours of cherry, chocolate and an earthiness that is supported by soft tannins and a finish that lasts as long as a clear Okanagan summer night.”  (tasting notes)

Red Rooster Winery Meritage 2008 (Canada) – “This Meritage is a classic blend of 58% Cabernet Franc, 38% Merlot and 4% Malbec, and sure to be the red ‘King of the Flock’.  The beautiful bouquet of black currant, cherry, black pepper, humidor and cedar brings a warming feeling with each swirl of the glass.  This full-bodied wine has wonderful flavours of rich, ripe black and red berries, delicate sweet spice, and toasty notes.  The drying finish lingers with flavours of sweet black fruits and a touch of spice.  Enjoy now through 2012.   FOOD PAIRINGS: Excellent with marinated leg of lamb, barbecued lamb chops, steak and kidney pie, beef stews, beef brisket, and 2 year old Canadian cheddar.”   (tasting notes)

A round and intensely fruity and spicy aftertaste.   Serving Suggestions:  Savoury full flavoured pasta or risotto dishes, grilled or stewed red meats, roast of beef and pork, lamb. Medium aged cheeses.”  (tasting notes)

La Valentina D’Abruzzo Spelt 2006 (Italy) - 100% Montepulciano “A wine which you notice for its ruby red color with purplish ecks. The nose notes wild berries, leading into violets, resin and bergamot for this substantial wine. To the palate it has a full, seductive body with no tannic overtones which melt into blackberry and blackcurrant intertwined with suggestions of cocoa and coffee. The palate is overwhelmed by rich balsamic emotions followed by the merest hints of wet graphite. It is perfect to accompany roast mountain lamb with aromatic herbs or Italian polenta with basil and wild mushrooms.”  (tasting notes)

Sweet red cherries, flowers, mint and rosemary come together nicely in the glass. Floral notes linger on the clean, minerally finish. This is an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years.” Robert Parker – Wine Advocate gave this vintage 93 points

Ehret Knight’s Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 (USA) – “The taste of this wine has benefited greatly from the origin of and agricultural practices used in the vineyard.   It is currently dark in color, displaying a fruit with rich, distinctive flavours and intense aromas.  The mouth feel is soft, with tannins that are not overpowering, and silky with a long-lasting finish.  This wine will thrive in the bottle for the next 10 years.  100% Cabernet Sauvingon, aged for 24 months in French oak.” (tasting notes)
