Inniskillin Dark Horse Estate Vineyard Meritage 2007

The Inniskillin Dark Horse Estate Meritage has become a family favourite – an easy choice or go to wine for the weekend.  It is from a winery in the South Okanagan and boasts “vanilla-infused oak and plums”.  A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, I find it to be full bodied and smooth.

Mill Street Lemon Tea beer  - our favourite out of the Mill Street Summer Sampler pack is now available in single 473ml cans.
Diplomatico Exclusive Reserve Rum -  described by Jason Foster for ‘Vue Weekly’ as:  “The Reserva Exclusiva is a soft deep copper colour, offering up a light aroma of sweet fruit blending with fruity, bready and floral notes. Molasses and raisin were prevalent. Upon sipping, it presents a bold sweet introduction of rich, deep Demerara sugar. A little orange comes through as well. The alcohol is impressively soft, and evaporates pleasantly at the back of your mouth. It is a big, thick rum that refuses to be ignored.”
Mount Gay Eclipse rum in a new bigger size – 1.14l
Wally’s Hut Cabernet/ Merlot (Australia)- Nugan Estates winery describes this wine as: ” On the palate, appealing sweet berry flavours layered with mint, spicy oak and soft lingering tannins. Graham Beck Shiraz 2005

I had a hard decision to make when it came to which wine to try for this week’s Wine Wednesday.  There are so many new and tempting offers in the store right now.   I finally settled on my old stand by – the Shiraz.  And it being from South Africa was another bonus.
The Graham Beck Shiraz 2005 is sublime.  Ready to drink right now.  According to the website for the Graham Beck winery the shiraz is: “…layers of ripe berry fruit and spiciness on the palate. Big structured wine with juicy mid palate and elegant but firm tannins on the finish.”  And I would have to totally agree.  So good.  It was very easy to drink this wine.

Varieties: ‘Six Vines’ is a blend of all of the traditional (and permitted) varieties used in Bordeaux red wines and Meritage. Tasting Note: This medium bodied wine displays cassis, blackberry, cherry and dried herb aromas. The palate is broad and sweet showing cherry and cocoa flavors. The tannins are well integrated and fairly soft. The finish is long and smooth. GOLD MEDAL WINNER AT 2009 ALL CANADIAN WINE CHAMPIONSHIPS.”  I’ve also include a link to the tasting notes for the 2008 vintage.  We won’t know until tomorrow which vintage we are receiving.

Harmoniously integrated flavours of blackberry, black cherry and plum mingle with tobacco, cinnamon and spice. Tannins are soft and gentle on the palate, and hints of dark choclate and minerality on the long finish. A wine gently crafted with great love, and to be enjoyed the same way.
“I trembled with expectation when this wine was poured into my glass and then almost collapsed in joy when it gave me everything I was hoping for. Phew.” - Matthew Jukes’ Top 50 from Cape Wine 2008″
